Joint Prosthesis Technology Research Center of National Yang Ming University was established in December 2003. Its main objectives are to focus on: the development of joint prosthesis designs; manufacturing and validating techniques; finally, fortify the consolidation and promotion works between different technologies. The combination of various department studies, including clinical medical science, engineering science, and biotechnology, enhance the building up of the joint prosthesis research technological platform. Our center will also be enrolled in organizing customer service, eventually, take charge to improve current conventional industry to contemporary biotechnology.
Origin of the Center
Amongst the traditional industries, competitions raise the standards of the products. It is, therefore, extremely difficult to increase profits, and decreasing annual profits has been the trend for most firms. Considering these facts, companies tend to move to the countries where offer lower labor and manufacture cost. In order to enhance the marketability, it is unavoidable to convert the traditional industry into high-tech industry. The combination of metal and plastic processing techniques are required during the manufacturing of joint prosthesis and evidently Taiwan is expert in metal work and processing techniques (including casting, forging, turning, injection molding, etc.); therefore, manufacturing of joint prosthesis will be one of the best and quickest transforming industries nationally.
Though the processing techniques of internal joint prosthesis and the specialized OEM service have reached the international standard, yet the related researches and validation techniques are still scarce. There is an urgent need to develop product research and certified examining laboratory; in order to promote nationˇ¦s industries related with joint prosthesis.
